5 Simple Steps to Choosing a Niche
A simple way to find niches that interest you. These are the niches that tend to be as enjoyable as they are profitable.

Before you think about doing any niche research, you need to ask yourself a few questions. it's not necessarily about finding your passion - only because not all passions translate into a marketable niche. You do, however, have to have enough motivation to sustain whatever niche you choose.

When first starting out it is a good idea to find a topic you know something about. Once you learn the ropes in a few niches you can think about moving into topics that are foreign to you, but may have strong profit potential. But back to the topic at hand...

Here is a simple step by step process to selecting niches that will be interesting enough for you.

  1. List 10 or more things that you like to do, interest you, or know how to do. Prioritize your list in that order. The things you like to do have a better chance than the stuff you just happen to know how to do. For example, you may enjoy playing the guitar, but you know how to wash windows. Either can work, but the latter may be hard to get excited about.
  2. Next to each item on your list, write down the things you like about it. Just write down whatever comes to mind, and keep writing until you stop. Don't worry about editing what you write, its only purpose is for this exercise.
  3. Scratch any item of your list that you had a hard time coming up with ideas of why you like it.
  4. Note the ones that have the most 'likes' listed by them, and were easiest to write about.
  5. Choose one; even if you have a few items left on your list. Any one of the remaining topics are a natural choice for your first niche.

These tips are helpful for the new niche marketer who has not had a taste of monetary success. Once the money starts rolling in, the profit motive can make unknown niches more attractive. But, these steps are helpful for the established niche marketer who wants to get back into a niche that interests them.

This is only the beginning of the process. Once a niche is selected, then you have to do some research. That's why it's okay to have more than one item left on your list. Time for a quick reality check: not every niche will be as successful as you would like.
