Ahhh....that pot of gold waiting at the end of your Internet marketing rainbow. It's there you know. Your email inbox will testify daily to the fact that people out there are making $10,000 everyday....even while they're sleeping, right? Or are they. Yes, many people do make that much everyday and more but it didn't just happen over night.

The fact is that Internet marketing has gotten very complex and is getting more so everyday. Competition has been heating up as more and more people get online and chase that pot at the end of the rainbow. And of course, your inbox gets fuller by the minute from these marketing hopefuls pitching the next best "secret" to instant wealth.

Does that mean you have virtually no chance of ever striking it rich on the Internet? Absolutely not. If you get your thinking straight and your perception of exactly what Internet marketing is, you will be miles ahead of most of that competition I just mentioned. It all depends on how you get started as to how or when you will finish.

Everyone's experience coming into this marketplace is different. Some will have the necessary computer knowledge needed to get started quickly. Others are great marketers while still others have great ability to write and communicate. All of these factors and many more are what you need to be thinking about when considering making the attempt at launching your career online. Without making a good assessment at which skills your are going to need to make or how you are going to acquire them I can almost guarantee your failure.

The good news is that there are a zillion ways at which you can make it big time online. The bad news is that none of them will be a "get rich quick by this weekend" program that I see touted every hour on the net. Most of those who actually do make a great living online have taken the time and persistence to see their dreams come true. They have followed a few golden rules in getting started and you can too. Here's a few to get you started.

1. Define Your Skills

You are going to become a marketer. Not just any marketer but a super marketer. To do that you need to assess the skills you have that will be necessary to stay on the cutting edge. The main area's you need to focus on are computer, writing, and selling skills. Rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 5. You don't need to be an expert when starting out but if you consider yourself an amateur at any of these take a little time and get brushed up. A week or two of research and learning will save you months in the long run.

2. Define The Market You Wish To Enter.

As I mentioned earlier there are a ton of area's in which to begin your adventure. Do you want to start out as an affiliate marketer? How about getting into the niche marketing arena. Maybe you would like to just build small, quick adsense sites or start off by seeing how well you can blog. There is also the world of Adwords marketing, domain name flipping and Ebay marketing as well. You might want to start building long term authority sites which could build you an income for years to come or develop some of your own products and sell them for all the profits. See what I mean? There are tons and I have only scratched the surface. Your head would spin with all the possibilities.

3. Define Your Time Management.

Don't go out and quit your day job! You need to figure out how much time you can put into your new venture until it becomes profitable. The more time you can commit to on a daily basis the quicker you will reach your goals. Keep your job until your online income matches your day job for at least 3 months. Don't get caught upside down in a fad market.

4. Unsubscribe!

Finally, once you settle on which direction you are going to go, unsubscribe to all those "guru's" trying to sell you on every new thing that comes along. This is by far derailed more would be marketing newbies than anything else on this earth. You need to focus on whatever project you start until you know everything there is to know and you have that project running like clockwork. Keep only those people on your mailing list that offer true help and guidance. If you are getting bombarded 100 times a week from the same people just trying to sell you stuff, who's interest do you think they have in mind? I can't over emphasize how important this is. It's been the demise of probably 90% of those who fail online.

Well, there you have it. These are just a few basic points to consider if you are thinking of jumping into the online world of money. There are many more but just taking the time to start with these and you will eliminate a ton of headaches and frustration so many experience when getting started. Yes, you can make a killing online with a little time and discipline. Get to know yourself and a few online marketers you can trust and you will find that pot of gold. I guarantee it!
