| Internet Marketing Tips - Matching Product To Market |
|
For those who think that marketing is a numbers game, you might want to read this article. Sometimes pure numbers don't make up for a mismatch of product to market.
I have to laugh at all the people who say to me things like, "Oh, just get your product out there in front of enough people and it will sell." It's that kind of misinformation that is responsible for more marketers failing than I can shake a stick at. Well, it's time to put an end to all the lies and myths on the numbers game with a real life example and some common sense. I am sure you will find this article most illuminating. Okay, I promised you a real life example and you're going to get it. First of all, let me start off by saying that I'm no hack. I'm a fairly successful marketer in my own right. Last year I banked over six figures and I am quite confident in my own ability to generate a nice living for myself. Anyway, I happened to fall in with another big name on the Internet. Actually, a much bigger name than myself. Well, one thing led to another and he told me he'd promote one of my products to his massive list. I was just about ready to count the thousands of dollars that were going to fall into my lap. Needless to say, it didn't happen. And then I had a conversation with this person and it turned out that the list he sent my offer to was used to receiving offers that were not such a high price. The lights started to come on. My product, as good as it might have been, was just not a match for this list. So even though the massive size of the list indicated that this promotion should have been a huge success, it was, in fact, a HUGE failure. Oh we made a few bucks, but I've had better days promoting on my own. So what did we learn from this? We learned that numbers alone do not make a successful promotion. There are many factors involved. The main one, however, is that the list in question has to be a match for your product, not only as far as what the product is but the price range as well. If you have a list that is used to buying items from you for under $10, don't expect to be able to sell them a lot of items that are in the $97 range. It's not going to happen, at least not in huge numbers. Matching product to market is absolutely critical to having success with any promotion...no matter how many people it goes out to.
