If your motives in marketing are less than pure, your prospect may just see through them and develop a very healthy dose of skepticism. When that happens, it's your sales that will suffer. This article is my attempt to get you to look at yourself in the mirror and analyze your own motives. They just might land your business in the toilet if you're not honest with yourself.
Every once in a while, I like to tackle a topic that makes people feel a little uncomfortable because it hits too close to home. Today, I'm talking about motives and skepticism...what I call the two headed monster. These two things can kill an Internet marketing campaign faster than you can say Bob's your uncle. If you don't quite understand how or why, or even see it let alone understand it, this article is going to spell it out in very plain English so that there is no misunderstanding. You may need to take a couple of antacids after reading this, because I don't think it's going to go down very well. Let's begin with the motives, because that's where the skepticism comes from. Okay, let's be honest...we all have motives for doing the things we do. I have them as well. I write these articles and place ads around the Internet and mingle with people at forums because I want to earn a living so that I can support my family. There is nothing wrong with that. Earning a good honest living is pretty much the way of the world. Let's face it...nobody gives us anything for nothing. The problems begin when our motives are so blatantly obvious, and maybe even a little suspect, that we end up turning the prospect into a doubting Thomas of the nth degree. When that happens...when our outright greed and disregard for all decency shines through like the sun on a cloudless day...the prospect becomes so skeptical that he just can't believe anything we say and we turn him away. The question is, how do we do this? What do we do that causes this skepticism? Well, it's going to be different in each person's case. One example would be the sales page that says something like, "Make $30,000 in 7 Days...We Do ALL The Work For You." Now, I don't know about you, but anybody with half a brain has to know that this is too good to be true and all this person wants is our money. Oh sure, there will be some who will fall for it, but I think the vast majority of people with any intelligence at all we see right through this, develop a healthy dose of skepticism, and ultimately NOT buy from this person. And it's all because this person's motives were simply about making as much money as he could without any concern for providing any REAL value to the prospect. So tomorrow, or whenever you feel you have the courage to look yourself in the mirror, take a GOOD look at your motives for doing the things that you do.
