| Internet Marketing Tips - Selling Oxygen To A Dead Man |
|
You can't sell oxygen to a dead man. If you're trying to do that with your product, you might want to read this article first. It will explain how to prevent this from happening.
Funny title, wouldn't you say? Let's face it, a dead man is in as much need of oxygen as you're in need of a face transplant. Okay, maybe not a good analogy, but you get the message. Truth is, many Internet marketers are doing just that. No, not getting face transplants...selling oxygen to dead people. And the sad thing is, if they just did a little bit of research on their niche, they wouldn't be in the situation that they're in. Well, in this article, I'm going to show you some simple ways to avoid selling oxygen to dead people. For starters, you need to look at the product or service you're selling and see if anybody actually needs it and if so, who. One way to do this is to put a questionnaire on your site. A simple poll will do just fine. Let's say you have a new gizmo that gets the dust out from under your couch without you having to crawl under the darn thing to do it. You simply put up a poll asking people if they'd be interested in such a contraption. If the great majority say yes, then maybe you have something. Of course you'd need to make sure you got a large enough sample. Another way to find out if people are interested in whatever it is you have to sell is to go to forums. Do you know why people hang out at forums? No, it's not to pick up chicks. They hang out at forums to get information about things. Many times, when I have a problem, I'll go to a forum and start asking questions. Well, if you're observant, you'll notice the questions that people are asking and this will give you a decent idea of whether or not they'd be interested in your product. But if not, just ask. Don't worry, you'll get plenty of answers...some of which you may not like. Still, one more thing you can do is see if there are actually any existing products similar to the one that you're thinking of creating that are already being sold. It's very rare that we think of something so unique that nobody else has thought of it. If no product like yours exists, there is a very good possibility that there is simply no demand for that product. Again, by checking with forums and putting out a survey, you can save yourself a lot of wasted time in creating something that is going to end up collecting dust on your hard drive. The bottom line is very simple. You can only sell things to people that they want. So if there is no burning need for the product itself, there will be no sales made of it. If it sounds simple, that's because it is. Selling oxygen to a dead man is pretty silly. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim |
