Small business owners need to spend their money wisely so the best way to start is to promote your business with a low cost marketing plan. Low cost doesn't necessarily mean easy and fast. It will require your time and a commitment just like writing your book or developing your products did. Words can make you money. Depending upon your knowledge and skill there are many ways to make money online (and off) with words. To begin take a look at the list below. Do an inventory and identify if you already have some of these items (or the experience) that you could market and sell, and if not which ones could you easily develop to start making money. 1. Get started with one product or service. To keep it simple identify just one product or service that can help you make money online (or off) right now. Select something from the list below that you know how to do: We want you to get started producing something you are familiar with so that you begin to understand the marketing process. That is the item you will use to develop your low cost marketing plan to make money online (and off). 2. Books can make you money. People will remember your name if you write a good non-fiction book: a) paperback, b) hardback, c) workbook, d) manual, and f) training binder for your workshop. Start with a small inexpensive product such as a simple booklet with 10 tips or more in it. Your clients will love it. Best of all people do not throw away books or booklets. They may give them away but your name will always be out there. Eventually you will get the recognition you deserve if you keep on passing out your booklets or selling your books and you never give up. I rarely throw a book away. 3. Digital products can make you money. Digital products sold online 1) e-Books, 2) MP3 and/or CD audios, and 3) Video training programs. Today's cameras have great video systems on them and most of us can learn how to use them. Better yet get a teenager to video you with a 5-minute demo of your products or services. Then you can put it on your website. I even save my eBooks. I print them and put them in a binder in my library. I use them for reference at times after I've read them once. I remember the authors' names of those eBooks that have good content in them. 4. Speaking, training and coaching programs. Speaking and training programs are a great way to introduce your expertise and sell your products. It is also an excellent way to sell your coaching or consulting services. If you have a fear of speaking you have to get over it if you are in business today. Years ago in high school I had such a fear of speaking that I avoided it way into my adult years. When I got into management I had to speak at times and it was no fun. I knew I had to overcome this fear so I took a Dale Carnegie course on "Effective Speaking" years ago. After 12 weeks I had no fear. It was a lot of fun and a terrific supportive group of people helped me begin to believe in myself. Later I joined Toastmasters International, a speaking and training organization, to keep up my speaking skills. There are Toastmasters groups all over the world. If you are in business you need to have confidence in your speaking abilities. You have to sell your products and services. The better you are able to communicate with your customers and prospects, the more successful your business will be. 5. Always Be Prepared and Ready. Don't wait until you know everything, are a terrific speaker, and have tons of products to sell. Start small and be ready when people call you. There are three things you must have ready at all times. 1) Have an order form and product info ready at all times. Take pictures of your products and have a list of them to hand out to customers as they come to your store or office, or as you visit their office. If you have a Web site put the photos and product list on your site. Get a Paypal account to start selling. Again start small and you will be ready when you have lots of products to sell. 2) Have a Cheat Sheet of contact info and a brief bio. If you are planning to go on radio and television add 10 questions to the sheet that you want the interviewer to ask you. 3) Media Sheet (One Sheet) with contact info, bio, credits and recognitions you have received. This is your Public Relations (PR) release and to show when clients and media want to know who you are. With all of the above you are now ready to market your products and services. It takes some of your time and effort to do all of the above, but it is worth it. Remember start small so you do not get overwhelmed. Make money online (and off) can start with you promoting yourself and your business. Now you have some of the tools you need to get started with your marketing plan. This is just the beginning to help you some great low cost tips on marketing to get recognition for your business and your name. |
