I have been asked more than a few times about the viability of web 2.0 strategies in building an effective internet marketing organization. Ten times out of ten I say, GO FOR IT. I'm not going to go into detail about how social networks have absolutely transformed fabric of our society because if you don't know that, where have you been? What I am here to say that if you are not using web 2.0 strategies to ramp up your business, you are missing out. I will refer specifically to MySpace but the information in this article rings true for ANY social networking system. There are currently well over 200,000,000 users on MySpace. Did you hear me? I said TWO HUNDRED MILLION!! Do you know what that says to me and should say to you? One word. Opportunity. You have over 200,000,000 who are available for you to try and market yourself to online for FREE. But let me not get to far ahead of myself. If you have spent any kind of time on MySpace then I'm sure you have been solicited by some aspiring songstress OR an over zealous stranger wanting you to listen to their song or comment on their new picture. There are thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people looking to make you take action in some way. Unfortunately, 99.9% of these people are marketing themselves or their products in the wrong way. To obtain the maximum benefit from your MySpace marketing campaign, you need to utilize ATTRACTION MARKETING. Your profile should tell people who you are and what you are about. Tell your story. Yes, you should have a link to your website or squeeze page but it should not be the highlight of your page. Now, when people visit your page they will start to get to know you. This will help you connect with people in a real way. The point is this: When it comes to using MySpace as tool for marketing, skip the selling and focus on branding yourself, building quality relationships and sending people to your squeeze page. Consistent monitoring is also a necessity. Don't neglect to keep up with the friends that you start to make. If you take the time and really do this right you will benefit greatly from it. |
