You've had your website designed - you're now the proud owner of a fantastic looking website - now what?

Now, you need to add traffic!

Seems simple doesn't it? Of course you need traffic, doesn't everyone know this? Well, no it doesn't appear so. It seems to me that many business people, and especially web designers">web designers, pay no attention at all to the fact that a website is actually for attracting traffic, and for bringing in business. I often get the feeling that for a lot of people, websites are just made to look pretty.

A site with no traffic is like a plane with no engine, it may look amazing - but it's never going to take you anywhere!

So - you have built your website, or had your website designed, now - you must start adding traffic, targeted traffic and as much of it as possible.

Many business people who do realize they need to work on generating traffic, start off first by concentrating on pay per click traffic, and other paid for traffic - I actually believe this is the wrong way to do it.

You see, people ignore organic search engine optimization quite often because it doesn't bring instant results. We're so used to having everything instantly, microwaved food, movies on demand, info on-line with a couple of mouse clicks, that if anything requires time we tend to bypass it opting to look for instant alternatives. But the fact is, organic search engine optimization if done correctly, will start to bring results within quite a short space of time, a week or two should usually be long enough for you to start to see results. But the main thing is - these results will keep on coming, for a long time to come, long after you've done the work.

The idea that you have to continually work on SEO is a myth, SEO if done correctly lasts a long time - yes there are factors involved such as how often you update pages & add new content, search engines prefer active sites to static ones, but regardless of whether you have a static site or one that you're keeping up to date with fresh content, organic SEO will usually give you a LOT more bang for your buck than pay per click! With PPC, the minute you stop investing, the traffic stops. This is never the case with SEO, if done well.

My advice is always to do organic search engine optimization as a first step - then move on to paid traffic, this way by the time your PPC campaign is starting to work, you'll already be benefiting from targeted organic free search engine traffic thanks to the organic SEO you did a few weeks previous.

So - have your website designed - work on organic SEO, then work on paid traffic. This is the way I would always recommend my clients to work.

The good thing about working this way also, is that you don't need to rely on PPC to bring in all of your traffic, so you can focus your pay per click marketing on specific keywords that you know to be high conversion.
